Helping local families in crisis or transition
The Giving Tree of Hummelstown and Hershey celebrates 20 years of supporting local families in crisis or transition.
Thanks to our committed volunteer members and valued relationships, we help an average of 150 families each year in Lower Dauphin and Derry Township school districts.

Roll Up Your Sleeves 2023...
Dental Hygiene Kits (February)
February is Dental Hygiene Month. Each kit contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, stickers and a dental health care activity booklet. They are delivered to Falcon Pack recipients and Lower Dauphin Elementary School nurses. We supplied 335 kits last year.
Books for Study Buddies (March)
We provide a book to each student in Lower Dauphin who participates in Study Buddies, an after-school program that matches a high school student with an elementary student to provide homework assistance and mentoring.
Snack Bags (Late May)
A variety of healthy option snack items are packaged for those students, who when school lets out, are no longer receiving reduced/free breakfast and or lunch.
ABC Books for Jump Start (July)
We provide a book for every child attending Jump Start, a kindergarten readiness program in the Lower Dauphin School District, to help them learn the alphabet and prepare for kindergarten.
Hygiene Kits (August)
Our hygiene kits contain shampoo, soap, deodorant and toothpaste and are delivered to Falcon Pack recipients and nurses in the Lower Dauphin School District. These items are not covered under food stamp programs so our support reduces the cost of hygiene items for families in need. We plan to add to this by asking for donations of female sanitary supplies.
Coat Drive (October-November)
Children’s coats are collected and distributed to Lower Dauphin schools to assist families in need. Last year we donated 55 coats.
Fruit Baskets (December)
Fruit baskets are purchased and delivered to our three local food pantries, Hummelstown, Hershey and Grantville. Last year we delivered 25 to each.
Female Sanitary Products
This is a new need we are working on. Middle school and high school nurses need support with a variety of these items for the female students. We would like to support this, so stay tuned for the details.
